BBV ALERT: Massachusetts, New England memory card custody issue

An alert Massachusetts citizen named Lisa asked her town elections official today what will happen to the Diebold voting machine memory cards after the election. The clerk replied that she will give the memory cards back to a private vendor, LHS Associates, the day after the election! The memory cards are the ballot box, in all New England voting machine locations. This is a very serious matter.

LHS Associates, from Methuen Mass., programs ALL the memory cards for Diebold systems in Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Maine. A member of the key management staff of LHS, Kenneth Hajjar, is a convicted narcotics trafficker. We have Hajjar's criminal record documents posted on our Web site. He is in charge of "sales and marketing" for elections for all of New England. In a radio interview, he admitted he drives around with memory cards in the trunk of his car. It is an unacceptable practice to have LHS controlling voting machine programming in New England, but it is outrageous that LHS is trying to collect its memory cards before the election is even canvassed or certified, not to mention before recount and contest periods have expired.

The video above shows how to spot memory card tampering (when it is done clumsily; if done skillfully it leaves no trace). Capture the evidence.

WHAT HAPPENED NEXT: Lisa called the Massachusetts Secretary of State, who informed her that it is ILLEGAL for towns to let LHS Associates take custody of the memory cards before 30 days has elapsed. Lisa's town clerk has now agreed not to let LHS do that.

WHAT TO DO: If you live in Massachusetts, place a call to your town clerk and ask what they are planning to do with their memory cards. If they say give them back to LHS report this to Black Box Voting and to hotlines like 1-866-OURVOTE and to the secretary of state, and tell the election official this is illegal unless they wait 30 days. If you live in Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine or Connecticut, you may want to make some phone calls to ask about this.

WHAT BLACK BOX VOTING IS DOING: In addition to issuing a general alert, we are faxing every town clerk in Massachusetts to remind them that it is illegal to give their memory cards to LHS before 30 days has elapsed. This will be more effective if local citizens also call, because they'll know people are watching. No New England election official should give the memory cards back to LHS before canvassing, certification, recount and contest periods have expired!

LONG TERM: The situation with secret vote counting on computers programmed by LHS needs to be resolved. After Nov. 4.

Grab a buddy (because it's more fun that way), don't worry about blanketing every area or organizing the whole state. Just pick a place and do it. I guarantee it will be a fascinating and important experience and could provide crucial evidence.

ELECTION ALERT: Straight Party Voting Trap. You may have read about this; Here are the details and what to do about it:

THE PROBLEM: "Straight party voting" on voting machines is revealing a bad pattern of miscounting and omitting your vote, especially if you are a Democrat. Most recently (Oct. 2008), a firm called Automated Election Services was found to have mis-coded the system in heavily Democratic Santa Fe County, New Mexico such that straight party voters would not have the presidential vote counted.

STRAIGHT PARTY VOTING is allowed in 15 states. Basically, it means that you can take a shortcut to actually looking at who you are voting for and instead just select a party preference. Then the voting machine makes your candidate choices, supposedly for the party you requested.

HOW TO PROTECT THE COUNT against Straight Party Trap:

1) NEVER CHOOSE THE STRAIGHT PARTY VOTE OPTION, because it alerts the computer as to your party preference and allows software code to trigger whatever function the programmer has designed.
2) SEND THIS INFORMATION OUT TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN, blog it, root n' toot it out there to get the word out.
3) ESPECIALLY GET THE WORD OUT TO PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING STATES, which have straight party voting options:
Alabama, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin
4) DEMAND COMPLETE AND CAREFUL TESTING OF THE STRAIGHT PARTY OPTION IN LOGIC & ACCURACY TESTS.
5) LOOK FOR UNDERVOTES (high profile races with lower-than-average number of votes cast) and flag them, post them, bring them to the attention of others for additional scrutiny.

Voting machine miscounts of straight party votes were proven by California researcher Judy Alter in the 2004 New Mexico presidential election; in Alabama Democrat straight party votes were caught going to a Republican, and Wisconsin a whole slew of straight party votes disappeared altogether. Both DRE and optical scan machines are vulnerable. Private contractors are involved; private firms like LHS Associates, Automated Election Services, Harp Enterprises, Casto & Harris and others will program almost all systems in the USA this November. ES&S scanners were involved in examples cited, but Diebold has also issued a cryptic Product Advisory Notice in 2006 about unexpected results from certain Straight Party option programming practices. The big "Oops" needs a new frame of reference. For example: You are counting the cash for a fund raiser. Somehow, it's discovered that $500 didn't make it into the count and someone put it in their pocket. They say "Oops" and tell you it was a mistake. Really? Will you let them count the cash again? Probably not. Consequences! Where are they for Automated Election Services, ES&S, or Diebold?

What Corporate Media Won't Publish or Air

Rep. Robert Wexler (FL-19) and two other Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee - Luis Gutierrez (IL-04) and Tammy Baldwin (WI-02) - today called on the committee to begin impeachment hearings for Vice President Cheney.

They declared, "The charges are too serious to ignore. There is credible evidence that the Vice President abused the power of his office, and not only brought us into an unneccesary war but violated the civil liberties and privacy of American citizens. It is the constitutional duty of Congress to hold impeachment hearings."

The three Democrats wrote an op-ed to announce their position, but none of the nation's leading newspapers would publish it - just as they refuse to include impeachment in their polls, and just as they refuse to publish their own investigations of the crimes of the Bush Administration. Why? Because the Corporate Media is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Republican Party, as it has been since the Reagan Revolution of 1980.

So this important announcement was made on a Blogcall hosted by Democrat.com, and was covered by progressive blogs - the only news media that serves the people, not the Corporations.

A CASE FOR HEARINGS
By Representatives and Members of the Judiciary Committee:
Robert Wexler (D-FL), Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI)


On November 7, the House of Representatives voted to send a resolution of impeachment of Vice President Cheney to the Judiciary Committee. As Members of the House Judiciary Committee, we strongly believe these important hearings should begin.

The issues at hand are too serious to ignore, including credible allegations of abuse of power that if proven may well constitute high crimes and misdemeanors under our constitution. The charges against Vice President Cheney relate to his deceptive actions leading up to the Iraq war, the revelation of the identity of a covert agent for political retaliation, and the illegal wiretapping of American citizens.

Now that former White House press secretary Scott McClellan has indicated that the Vice President and his staff purposefully gave him false information about the outing of Valerie Plame Wilson as a covert agent to report to the American people, it is even more important for Congress to investigate what may have been an intentional obstruction of justice. Congress should call Mr. McClellan to testify about what he described as being asked to “unknowingly [pass] along false information.” In addition, recent revelations have shown that the Administration including Vice President Cheney may have again manipulated and exaggerated evidence about weapons of mass destruction -- this time about Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

Some of us were in Congress during the impeachment hearings of President Clinton. We spent a year and a half listening to testimony about President Clinton’s personal relations. This must not be the model for impeachment inquires. A Democratic Congress can show that it takes its constitutional authority seriously and hold a sober investigation, which will stand in stark contrast to the kangaroo court convened by Republicans for President Clinton. In fact, the worst legacy of the Clinton impeachment – where the GOP pursued trumped up and insignificant allegations - would be that it discourages future Congresses from examining credible and significant allegations of a constitutional nature when they arise.

The charges against Vice President Cheney are not personal. They go to the core of the actions of this Administration, and deserve consideration in a way the Clinton scandal never did. The American people understand this, and a majority support hearings according to a November 13 poll by the American Research Group. In fact, 70% of voters say that Vice President Cheney has abused his powers and 43% say that he should be removed from office right now. The American people understand the magnitude of what has been done and what is at stake if we fail to act. It is time for Congress to catch up.

Some people argue that the Judiciary Committee can not proceed with impeachment hearings because it would distract Congress from passing important legislative initiatives. We disagree. First, hearings need not tie up Congress for a year and shut down the nation. Second, hearings will not prevent Congress from completing its other business. These hearings involve the possible impeachment of the Vice President – not our commander in chief – and the resulting impact on the nation’s business and attention would be significantly less than the Clinton Presidential impeachment hearings. Also, despite the fact that President Bush has thwarted moderate Democratic policies that are supported by a vast majority of Americans -- including children’s health care, stem cell research, and bringing our troops home from Iraq -- the Democratic Congress has already managed to deliver a minimum wage hike, an energy bill to address the climate crisis and bring us closer to energy independence, assistance for college tuition, and other legislative successes. We can continue to deliver on more of our agenda in the coming year while simultaneously fulfilling our constitutional duty by investigating and publicly revealing whether or not Vice President Cheney has committed high crimes and misdemeanors.

Holding hearings would put the evidence on the table, and the evidence – not politics – should determine the outcome. Even if the hearings do not lead to removal from office, putting these grievous abuses on the record is important for the sake of history. For an Administration that has consistently skirted the constitution and asserted that it is above the law, it is imperative for Congress to make clear that we do not accept this dangerous precedent. Our Founding Fathers provided Congress the power of impeachment for just this reason, and we must now at least consider using it.

Tired of 9/11 Flag-waving

Porlogue: I get sick and tired of getting those "Don't Forget 9/11 and who's to blame for it - let's go kill the Bastards........" kind of chain emails.

Actually, I'm sick of all of the crap knee-jerk "send this out or else" chain-email. It's not as bad as being SPAMMed - it's WORSE, because anyone who sends them out is HELPING the SPAMMERS by providing countless email addresses out in the open for anyone to "steal", and that is always what happens. Actually, I've counted as many as 120(!) at one time - you know, you have to scroll down for an hour just to get past all of the email addresses before you get to read the actual message?

But I always take the time to thank the sender by blind-emailing everyone in the message to explain their "friend's" contribution to their SPAM email load.

Who do you think originally writes those things? If you said "The SPAMMERS" then you win the door prize.

These meaningless pieces of junk also contribute to choking up the internet with useless and meaningless sentimentality - sure, there are cute ones here and there, but most of them could be reduced by up to 75% if folks would just trim out the email addresses and blind copy their list of friends....

I recently received a "Don't Forget 9/11 and who's to blame for it - let's go kill the Bastards........" from a "Christian" person who is very dear to me.

This is what I sent to the 30 people whose email addresses I had so graciously (or, more likely, thoughtlessly and carelessly) been given:

While these messages are quite disturbing in the casual, base way they are written to bring about a gut reaction to their readers, with the express intent not of railing about 9/11 but to steal your email address.....

(that's why several of you have no idea who I am, and yet, here I am emailing you - then you wonder why you get spammed all the time - it's because people insist on sending meaningless, emotional, empty-headed junk with your email in the CC field for all to see, AND COPY FOR THEIR USE, WHATEVER THAT MAY BE. This is the fundamental reason why you don't see who els I sent this to, though I sent it out to 30 people)

.......and though I continually get ignored when I tell certain individuals to respect my email address by blind copying me, I have to get dead serious about the content of the message itself, because I believe it is time someone finally ripped that red, white and blue blankie from your hands. We are not children - most of us - that can simply wave the flag and think everything is going to be just fine - they did it in the streets of Berlin, too, ya kow...

It is time someone showed you the reality of how we have all been played for suckers! (are we Americans or Christians? You can not serve two masters!)

The email I received from a caring person only underscores the knee-jerk emotionalism and patriotism we are programmed to feel and express every time the memory of 9/11 is invoked.

The American people have been manipulated to behave this way - from the inception of the nation - and it's time they woke up to the truth:

The war on terror (WOT) is a farce.

Those 7 words will likely make you angry.

If that phrase does upset you, you will likely not want to read the rest of this, but I believe it's in your best interest to read it. We have been manipulated like a bunch of sheep and this could be your chance to wake up from the sleepy dream of a lie we have been told. If you took the time to read the piece of flag-waving junk that caused me to write this, you can certainly take the time to read this - it's the difference between reading a comic book or real history.....

This is not to say that 9/11 wasn't a terrible thing - it was, but let's put things into perspective, shall we? I'm not trying in any way to disrespect the victims of 9/11 or their families. I am not trying to disrespect our troops (I myself served in the Navy.) I do not, in fact "Hate America", so let's just set all of those little straw men aside and get serious, OK?

The WOT is an excuse to get Americans all riled up to justify murdering hundreds of thousands of innocent men, women and children in a sovereign nation that had nothing to do with 9/11.

Let's think about this.

If I recall correctlly, the Lord said:

Mat 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies,bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you,and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

Mat 5:45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven:for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good,and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

Mat 5:46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye?do not even the publicans the same?

Mat 5:47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more [than others]? do not even the publicans so?

Mat 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Eventually, the government will continue on to a third nation (Iran) on the premise that they are developing and will use nuclear weapons against the United States. All the while refusing to have any real diplomatic relationship with them in order to help ease the tensions, exactly as we treated Iraq, and the unfounded reports of Iraq having ambitions for nuclear weapons are exactly as was Iraq - and we know how accurate that was!

Besides, have we provided any nation with any meaningful solution to protect themselves from the US besides developing some kind of WMD? The US has the largest and most deadly stockpile of WMD's in the world!

The "WOT" is the central excuse given as the reason that the American people accept horrible acts torture acceptable if we beat "The bad guys" or "Avoid another 9/11". I have actually talked to people who said this to me.

WHAT????

Since when did Jesus say "Love your neighbor, unless you need to torture them to protect yourselves!" ? I DON"T CARE WHO THEY ARE! If we stoop to that level, then we are become that which we claim to detest!

The 9/11 attacks were a great opportunity used as a pretext for unbridled and unending war! Those who make money on wars - and there are a lot of them - stand to make Trillions upon Trillions of dollar in profits off of the blood of our soldiers and, truth be told, the other side's fighters as well, since they don't care who they fund or arm - the US was actually caught FUNDING al-Qaida at the same time we are supposedly fighting them in Iraq!

("al-Quida" is Arabic for "The Base" which refers to the CIA database of Afghani freedom fighters that we were training and funding during the USSR invasion of Afghanistan)

The WOT gave the US an excuse to invade the two countries that stood in the way of a major oil pipeline from the Caspian Sea, Iraq and Afghanistan.

The "WOT" is also the central reason given for the writing of laws that have trashed our civil liberties and brought use dangerously close to a police state!

It has been used as a excuse to allow illegal activities to be carried out by our own government for the sake of our "safety and security."

You can be rest assured that nearly if not all of the Bill of Rights no longer applies, thank you very much.

You can also be assured that those in the current administration who have sworn to uphold and protect the constitution have treated it like so much toilet paper.

Bush on the Constitution: ‘It’s just a goddamned piece of paper’

And yet, we all seem to want to wave the flag and shout "US #1!" right after someone cries "9/11, 9/11, 9/11!" - very much like what the Germans did when someone cried "Reichstag, Reichstag, Reichstag!"

Well the reality is, we aren't #1, unless you say that we are #1 in invading countries that had nothing to do with 9/11 and #1 in failing to capture our #1 "Suspect."

The American govt. has staged or permitted at least 4 individual events and lied to it's people untold numerous times to bolster support for war.

The American government has played a major role in the coups and guerilla wars around the world for at least 60 years.

It was America that overthrew the democratically elected government of Iran in the 60's to make way later on for the Shah's and the anti-American sentiment that arose from our actions.

It was the United States Government that aided and brought to power a great list of "evil" men:

- Osamma Bin Laden and the freedom fighters of Afghanistan were created and aided by the US during the USSR occupation of Afghanistan. We armed and trained them - I would say we've done a pretty good job!

- The US armed Iran (remember the Iran Contra Affair that no one went to prison for?) and later gave Saddam Hussein WMD's during the war between Iran and Iraq. Yep, that's right, we armed BOTH sides of that conflict and yep, you guessed it - the WMD's that we were after in the 90's in Iraq were the same WMD's that we sold him and taught him how to make - I would say that the US is either a very bad judge of character or they know how to set up their targets....

The list is pretty long. It is also very embarrassing.... if you thought it was great to be an American - especially when you thought you were the cowboy with the white hat....

The United States is in fact the number one supporter of state-run-terrorism. We funded the group that eventually came to be named "Al Qaida." We funded the Sandinistas. Many banks and businesses were, in fact aiding and funding the Nazi's during WWII, even AFTER we joined the war!

We have illegally invaded two nations in the name of anti-terrorism, then we helped evacuate al-Qaida after we occupied Afghanistan.

It isn't and never was about "terrorism." If it was, we would have actually captured Osama Bin Laden by now, not made up fake videos of him threatenning the US (BTW, I live in Durham NC, Home of Duke University where the preeminent American authority on Osama works. He has stated to collegues of mine, that the recent audio and video recordings of him are fakes.)

Why don't the TV and news papers tell you all this? Look at who owns them: Most are owned in part or in whole by government and military contractors. They have a big stake in making money on war!
